Who are you?
Wouter Schaart.

When did you start at ConsultAssistent?
I started in August 2018; at that time, there were just the two of us in an office in The Hague. But growth took off quickly after that.

What does it mean to be a lead developer?
Traditionally, being a lead developer means providing technical guidance and mentorship to your team. At ConsultAssistent, it also means serving as the technical point of contact for clients, keeping track of ongoing projects, and anticipating future challenges. Because you work with highly intelligent people, it especially means that you must be a good listener and find technically sound consensus. In addition, you serve as the voice of management within your team and represent your team to management.

How do you contribute to patient care?
The best compliment we’ve ever received is that doctors have told us that, since they started using ConsultAssistent, they’ve been able to take breaks again. On the surface, our questionnaires ensure that doctors quickly obtain the right information about the patient. But on a deeper level, we free up time between doctor and patient that can be used to inform and guide the patient. This makes the treatment process more pleasant for both the patient and the doctor.

Why ConsultAssistent?
ConsultAssistent is my team because it’s small enough that I know everyone, yet it can still have a big impact on healthcare. Every day, I face a wide variety of challenges—in the code, in the architecture of our program, and in my interactions with all external parties.
