Flevo Hospital: "Hh ow did we manage without a ConsultAssistant?"

Since March 2021, Flevo Hospital has been using ConsultAssistent to optimize consultations, via auto-anamnesis and automatic follow-up. After 1.5 years of working with ConsultAssistent, the value for doctors and patients is more than obvious. "I can't imagine how we did it before" says Marleen Vleming, ENT physician at Flevo Hospital.

The Flevo Hospital asks every patient in the ENT department to complete the digital questionnaire of ConsultAssistent prior to an appointment. Just like the patient, this gives the physician a very clear picture of what symptoms the patient is experiencing, his or her circumstances and what the request for help is. Patients can also be better compared with each other. A large part of the history is thus already done before the patient comes to the consultation.

Patient and practitioner can therefore discuss directly what is really important. Good for patient engagement and being able to decide together on the follow-up.

Getting to the point faster during consultation and in diagnosis

ENT specialist Marleen Vleming continues: "Until a year ago, it was always a surprise who walked in to my consultation. I actually knew almost nothing about the patient except a referral letter from the family doctor. Now that we use ConsultAssistent, and have much more relevant data from the patient beforehand, I don't really understand anymore how we managed without it for so long."

The ENT department's use of ConsultAssistent also allows for an average of one additional consultation per physician per consultation hour, and fewer appointments appear to be needed to reach the correct conclusions.

Streamlined process through the EMR

The next step recently taken by Flevo Hospital is the coupling of ConsultAssistent with the (SAP) EMR. The link makes it possible to execute the entire process from the EMR. From making appointments and sending questionnaires to consulting reports. A change in the EMR is immediately, real-time taken into account by ConsultAssistent.   

As a result, physician assistants no longer have to worry about ConsultAssistent. Fatima Chemlali, physician's assistant at the ENT department: "Where we used to import appointments separately into ConsultAssistent, now it happens automatically. That's very nice. Even if an appointment is moved in the EMR, ConsultAssistent adapts immediately."

The use of ConsultAssistant at Flevo Hospital will continue to develop in the near future, through new specialty groups and the pre-operative screening (POS) module.
