Older Adults and digital auto-anamnesis: A Surprisingly High Response Rate
We are often asked whether older patients can actually use our digital auto-anamnesis and follow-up software.
According to Patrick Tettero —Operations Director at Oogkliniek Den Haag —older patients are doing very well, perhaps even better than younger people.
"I'm very happy with ConsultAssistent: it saves time during the consultation and patients report that they like being able to fill out the smart questionnaires at home, at their leisure, and thus be able to think carefully about what is bothering them and what their care needs are."
Maja Stefanovic —an ophthalmologist at Oogkliniek Den Haag —recognizes herself in this description:
"Inquiring about medication, allergies, history and the like at home no longer needs to be done in the consultation room and thus net more time there for the actual consultation."
We dug into the data, and guess what? 📊
- The response rate among older patients is very high: over 80%
- The largest group of patients is those aged 60 and older, including a large number of people aged 70 and older
- The oldest users are well into their 90s
What are the conditions for this success?
- Patients appreciate that only the relevant questions are asked, that the questions follow a logical sequence, and that there are no duplicates. There is also room for a personal story.
- Doctors are pleased that there is less administrative burden and that consultations get to the heart of the matter more quickly because the discussions are more informed. There is a more complete and consistent picture, and complementary information is available.
- For the healthcare system, this means lower costs, more efficient and appropriate care, and a wealth of objective and comparable healthcare data.
With every patient, we learn how to provide even better care for the next patient.
